What is Roller Derby?Roller derby, when played according to the rules of the Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association (WFTDA), is …
a real sport … with real rules … featuring real athletes. But how does the game actually work? Let’s start with the most simple definition first:
Each play (known as a “jam”), in roller derby is a race between two players (one from each team), with interference. It’s that “pesky” interference bit that makes the game so interesting! One player from each team, known as the jammer (you’ll recognize her by the star on her helmet), tries to fight her way through a pack of skaters known as blockers. Half of those skaters are on her team and trying to help her. The other half are … a bit less cooperative, you might say! … if you like what you see, come check us out! |
About the pushThe Peoria Push first wobbled onto skates in March of 2010. Since then, we’ve been getting stronger and helping our community get stronger, too. From working in soup kitchens to volunteering for trash pickup, we strive to make the Peoria area a better place to live, work, and play.
We are nurses, bus drivers, business owners, counselors, teachers and students. We come in all shapes, sizes, and ages.
We skate twice a week, smell worse than we ever dreamed was possible, and work harder than we knew we could. When we aren’t doing laps or knocking each other down, we do try to remember to have a good time, though. Whether you get to know us as a fan or as a skater, we’d love it if you would join us in the fun! |
